In brief: Mexico’s flag carrier to resume flights to Venezuela

*Mexico’s flag carrier, Aeroméxico, has announced that it will resume flights to Caracas, Venezuela as part of international expansion plans. The flight between Mexico City (CDMX) and Caracas will begin in October, subject to governmental approvement. “The intention of resuming the route to Caracas represents a very important step for expanding the connectivity network of Mexico with South America, addressing market demands and making good on the promise to offer more journey options,” Giancarlo Mulinelli, Aeroméxico’s senior vice president of global sales, said in a statement widely cited in the local press. According to Bloomberg Línea, Aeroméxico stopped operating its route between CDMX and Caracas 10 years ago. Currently Venezuela’s state-owned airline Conviasa runs weekly flights between Caracas and the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), some 40km from the centre of CDMX, as well as twice weekly flights between Caracas and Cancún, a Caribbean resort city in Mexico’s Quintana Roo state.
