*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released news figures for the country’s retail sales, showing that the total sales volume posted a monthly increase of 0.5% in March this year. Compared to March 2025, monthly sales were up 4.0%, and the accumulated annual sales volume in the 12 months through March 2026 was up 1.8% on the preceding 12-month period. Of the eight categories of products measured by the Ibge, five posted monthly increases in sales. The greatest monthly rises were registered in office supplies and information and communications equipment (+5.7%), fuels and lubricants (+2.9%), and other items for personal and domestic use (+2.9%). Monthly sales decreases were posted in the categories of supermarkets, food, drinks, and smoking products (-1.4%) and furniture and home appliances (-0.9%), while clothing and footwear registered zero monthly variation.
