In brief: Inflation accelerates in Chile

*Chile’s national statistics institute (INE) has announced that monthly inflation in April was 1.3%. This was up from 1.0% in March and was the biggest monthly increase since July 2022, according to Bloomberg. This brought the annual inflation rate to 4.0%, up from 2.8% in March. Of the 13 categories measured by the INE, 10 showed monthly price rises, with the greatest registered in transport (+8.0%) and housing and basic services (+0.8%). Clothing and footwear showed the greatest monthly drop in prices, down 1.8%.
