BOLIVIA: Judge assassinated as Marset’s cartel fractures
There were warnings in the aftermath of the March capture of Bolivia-based Uruguayan drug kingpin Sebastián Marset that his organisation, the Primer Cartel Uruguayo (PCU), would carry out reprisals [WR-26-11]. Two months later, President Rodrigo Paz said on 4 May that a string of contract killings in recent weeks, including the murder of a magistrate on the agro-environmental court (TA), were a sign of turmoil within the PCU.
