PERU: Fujimori blasts Sánchez for link to extremist

Keiko Fujimori is campaigning in earnest ahead of the second round of Peru’s presidential election on 7 June. The candidate of the right-wing Fuerza Popular (FP) is assured of a place in the run-off, but is still waiting to find out who she will be facing. It is most likely to be Roberto Sánchez, of the left-wing Juntos por el Perú (JPP), and it was he that Fujimori attacked during a visit to the northernmost region of Loreto on 5 May for his links to the ultra-nationalist Antauro Humala. The third-placed candidate Rafael López Aliaga, of the far-right Renovación Popular (RP), is still refusing to give up, however, and he staged another protest rally outside the headquarters of the electoral authorities in Lima on 6 May denouncing electoral fraud.
