Browne makes history as ruling party sweeps Antigua elections

Prime Minister Gaston Browne and the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) will serve a fourth straight term in power after an emphatic victory in a snap general election on 30 April. Browne decided to go to the polls two years earlier than the constitutional deadline after the ABLP inflicted a crushing by-election defeat on the main opposition United Progressive Party (UPP) in March and to take advantage of disarray within the UPP, five of whose MPs defected to the ABLP.
