GUATEMALA: Arévalo names new attorney general
“An end to one of the darkest cycles for Guatemalan justice”. This was the hope expressed by Juan Francisco Sandoval, an internationally lauded prosecutor currently in exile, in response to President Bernardo Arévalo’s appointment of Gabriel Estuardo García Luna as Guatemala’s new attorney general. An adviser to the procurator general’s office (PGN), professor and former judge, García Luna is due to take up the post on 17 May for a four-year term.
