CHILE: Kast admits to “mistake”

Chile’s President José Antonio Kast acknowledged on 24 April that he had made a “mistake” by inviting some 70 old university acquaintances to a private lunch at the presidential palace La Moneda. Although Kast insisted that nothing had been paid for out of taxpayers’ money, the optics are damaging at a time when his government has passed the whole burden of recent fuel price increases onto the public to protect the public finances.
