Peruvians remain none the wiser about which two candidates will proceed to the second round of presidential elections on 7 June. The final stage of the count is progressing painstakingly slowly. There is nothing so far to suggest, however, that Rafael López Aliaga, of the far-right populist Renovación Popular (RP), is going to prise second place out of the grasp of Roberto Sánchez of the left-wing Juntos por el Perú (JPP), and secure a run-off against Keiko Fujimori, of the right-wing Fuerza Popular (FP). Indeed, quite the reverse: Sánchez is slowly but surely pulling away.
