*The World Bank’s vice president for Latin America and the Caribbean,
Susana Cordeiro Guerra, has met with Venezuela’s ambassador to the US,
Félix Plasencia. The meeting, which came four days after the World Bank announced a
resumption of dealings with Venezuela following a seven-year pause, was described by Cordeiro as
“productive”. She said that
“as engagement resumes, there is a real opportunity to unlock jobs, attract investment, and support growth”. She added that
“the World Bank Group stands ready to partner with Venezuela on the path ahead”. Venezuela last received a loan from the World Bank in 2005.
