*Uruguay’s national statistics institute (INE) has released the official inflation figures for March, putting monthly inflation at 0.41% and annual inflation at 2.94%. The monthly rate for March is up from 0.35% in February, but the annual rate has decelerated from the figure of 3.11% registered for the 12 months through February 2026. The latest annual figure is below the lower bound of Uruguay’s inflation target range, with the central bank aiming for an annual inflation rate of 3.0-6.0%. Of the 13 categories of products and services measured by the INE, 10 saw monthly price rises in March 2026. The greatest monthly increases were registered in education services (+3.16%), insurance and financial services (+1.18%), recreation, sport, and culture (+0.97%), and transport (+0.94%). The three categories that registered monthly deflation were food and non-alcoholic drinks (-0.05%), clothing and footwear (-0.21%), and personal care, social protection, and various goods (-0.01%).
