In brief: Mexico’s Sheinbaum pledges Cuba donation

*Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum has said she will make a donation “in a personal capacity” to Cuba, after former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2018-2024) announced a fundraising campaign for the island, which is facing crippling oil shortages and a humanitarian crisis as a result of the US oil blockade. Sheinbaum said that Mexico had always stood in solidarity with the Cuban people, saying that “it is our duty – without putting Mexico at risk – to continue supporting the people of Cuba… because that is the essence of who we are”.
