In brief: Colombia’s industrial production falls in January

*Colombia’s national statistics department (Dane) has published the industrial production index for January, which was down by 0.5% compared to January 2025. This drop was caused by reduced production in mining and quarrying (-4.0%) and industrial manufacturing (-0.5%). In contrast, there was a 3.7% increase in the collection, treatment, and distribution of water, and a 2.7% increase in the provision of electricity and gas. Over the 12 months to January 2026, industrial production increased by 0.5%, compared to a drop of 1.7% over the same period a year earlier. This was the result of a 1.9% increase in the collection, treatment, and distribution of water, a 1.8% increase in the provision of electricity and gas, and a 1.7% increase in industrial manufacturing, while mining and quarrying fell by 5.2%.
