HONDURAS: Asfura meets Trump
Honduran President Nasry ‘Tito’ Asfura has met US President Donald Trump, whose backing ahead of the 30 November election was arguably pivotal to his victory. The 7 February meeting at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida came days after Asfura’s 27 January investiture, in a clear sign of the importance that relations with Washington are set to play under his conservative Partido Nacional (PN) government - in contrast to the bilateral tensions which ensued under the previous leftist Partido Libertad y Refundación (Libre) government led by Xiomara Castro (2022-2026).
