This was the assessment of Pierre Espérance, the director of local NGO Réseau National de Défense des Droits Humains (RNDDH), regarding Haiti’s nine-member transitional presidential council (CPT), whose mandate ended on 7 February. Established in April 2024 after former prime minister Ariel Henry (2021-2024) was ejected amid gang attacks, the scandal-hit CPT failed in its twin objectives of restoring security to the country and staging long overdue elections.
