In brief: Industrial production down, construction up in Argentina

*Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has published the latest industrial production index, showing a 0.1% monthly drop in December in seasonally adjusted terms. In year-on-year terms, industrial production in December was down by 3.9%. Accumulated industrial production over the whole of 2025 was up 1.6% on 2024. Six out of the nine production categories registered yearly declines in activity, with the steepest year-on-year drops in other equipment, apparatus, and instruments (-22.4%), cars and other vehicles (-19.4%), and textiles, clothing, leather, and shoes (-18.7%). Production of non-metallic minerals and basic metals were up 4.4%, whilst wood, paper, publishing and printing increased by 4.6% year-on-year. Indec also published its construction activity index, showing a 3.8% monthly increase in December in seasonally adjusted terms. In year-on-year terms, construction was up by 2.9% while construction activity was up by 6.3% between January and December 2025. Of the 13 categories measured, five registered yearly increases, with the greatest in bathroom ceramics (+40.0%). The remaining eight registered yearly declines, with the greatest drop in hollow bricks (-20.7%).
