In brief: Brazil’s net job creation slows

*Brazil’s labour ministry has released the latest figures from its national employment registry (Novo Caged), which showed that net job creation in 2025 totalled 1.28m. This marks a decrease from the net 1.68m new jobs created in 2024 and is the lowest annual net job creation figure recorded since 2020. A total of 26.60m new hires were registered in 2025, while dismissals totalled 25.32m. The ministry also released the monthly figures for December 2025, which was the worst month of last year for job creation, with a net loss of 618,164 jobs. This resulted from 1.52m new hires in December, the lowest monthly result of 2025, and 2.14m dismissals.
