Election Watch

Introduction

This year will see voters head to the polls in four Latin American countries - Costa Rica, Peru, Colombia, and Brazil - and at least two in the Caribbean, where elections are due in The Bahamas and an early election has been called in Barbados. Elections are also due in Haiti, although these remain far from certain. While incumbent or continuity candidates are currently expected to perform well in some races, such as in Barbados, Costa Rica, and, with less certainty, Brazil, other races remain wide open. As recent years have shown, outsider candidates should not be ruled out as disillusionment with the political classes remains high.
