BRAZIL: Bolsonaro transferred to new prison

Supreme court (STF) justice Alexandre de Moraes issued an order on 15 January for former president Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2023), who was convicted in September for plotting a coup d’état, to be transferred from the federal police (PF) jail in Brasília to the Papuda prison complex outside of the capital. In this prison, Bolsonaro has been given a larger cell, but this concession is unlikely to ease the complaints from his allies and supporters who have reiterated calls for the 70-year-old former president to serve his 27-year sentence under house arrest due to his recurring health problems.
