*Mexico’s national chamber of commerce, services and tourism (Concanaco Servytur) has stated that the country could reap economic benefits of close to M$200bn (US$11.33bn) from hosting the 2026 World Cup, three times the official estimated economic impact of M$65bn. Speaking at a press conference, Concananco Servytur president,
Octavio de la Torre, said that the tournament would not only benefit Mexico City (CDMX), Jalisco, and Nuevo León, where matches are to be held, but would also impact other parts of the country which had the opportunity to showcase tourist attractions. He said this would generate a
“widespread spillover effect” in terms of economic impact. Mexico is co-hosting the World Cup, which will take place from 11 June to 19 July, along with the US and Canada. Matches in Mexico will be played in CDMX, Jalisco state capital Guadalajara, and Nuevo León state capital Monterrey.
