In brief: Brazil’s unemployment rate reaches record low

*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released the unemployment figures for the rolling quarter of September-November 2025, showing a jobless rate of 5.2%, corresponding to around 5.6m people. This marks the lowest unemployment rate on record since the Ibge began recording the metric in 2012. The total number of employed people in the September-November quarter stood at 103m, which is also a record figure. In a press release, the Ibge highlighted that the category of public administration, defence, social security, education, heath, and social services posted the highest rise in employment, with a quarterly increase of 2.6%, equivalent to around 492,000 more people. The nine other sectors measured by the Ibge did not register significant quarterly increases in employment.
