In brief: Brazil’s retail sales rise in October

*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released its latest figures for the country’s retail sales, showing a 0.5% monthly increase in October. The rise in October comes after a 0.2% decline in September. The monthly sales volume in October this year was up 1.1% compared to October 2024, and the accumulated annual sales volume in the 12 months through October 2025 was up 1.7% on the preceding 12-month period. All but one of the eight product categories measured by the Ibge saw a monthly rise in sales in October. Fabrics, clothing, and footwear was the only category to register a monthly drop, with a decline of 0.3%. The greatest monthly increases were registered in office supplies and information and communications equipment (+3.2%), fuels and lubricants (+1.4%), and furniture and home appliances (+1.0%).
