ARGENTINA: Milei’s LLA becomes strongest force in congress

When newly elected legislators took their oath on 3 December, Argentina’s President Javier Milei’s far-right La Libertad Avanza (LLA) became the largest party in the lower chamber of congress. Following the surprisingly strong showing in the October mid-term elections, Milei’s party successfully signed up turncoats from other parties and now totals 95 out of 257 seats. The LLA also benefitted from defections within the main opposition force, the Peronist Fuerza Patria (FP) coalition, which was left with 93 seats.
