*Colombia’s mining authority, the Agencia Nacional de Minería (ANM), has rejected an application to extend a copper mining concession belonging to the company Minera de Cobre Quebradona S.A.S, which was seeking more time to carry out exploration activities in the municipalities of Jericó and Támesis, Antioquia department. The ANM noted that this was the third such unsuccessful request since 2016 by the company, which is a local subsidiary of South Africa’s AngloGold Ashanti. It said that the request was denied on the grounds that there had not been sufficient efforts to establish the environmental viability of the project, as well as social problems caused by mining activities.
