In brief: Mexico’s unemployment down in monthly terms, up year-on-year

*Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has reported that the unemployment rate of the economically active population stood at 2.6% in October 2025, compared to 2.5% in the same month of the previous year and 3.0% in September. This equates to 1.6m people, up by 96,000 people year-on-year. In October the economically active population – meaning people aged 15 and over who are employed or actively seeking work – stood at 62.5m, up by 1.1m people as compared to October 2024. The informality rate in October was 55.7%, up from 54.1% in October 2024, with 33.9m people employed in the informal sector.
