In brief: Ecuador’s congress approves 2026 budget

*Ecuador’s national assembly has approved the government’s budget proposal for 2026 with 78 votes in favour, 66 against, and four abstentions. The budget, which prioritises investments in healthcare, security, and education, sets out US$46.26bn in spending, equivalent to 33.27% of GDP, and is based on estimated real GDP growth of 1.8% in 2026, and a West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil price of US$35.47 per barrel.
