URUGUAY: Euthanasia bill passed into law

Uruguay’s congress approved a piece of legislation in October known as the ‘Muerte Digna’ (Dignified Death) bill which legalises euthanasia for adults with incurable, terminal illnesses. This makes Uruguay the first South American country to approve legislation to legalise euthanasia and represents a political victory for the ruling left-wing Frente Amplio (FA) coalition, which lacks a majority in the lower house but controls the senate.
