Christopher Landau has announced that Guatemalan firm, Castillo Hermanos, has acquired US beverage company Harvest Hill Beverage Company, which manufactures leading US beverage brands, SunnyD and Juicy Juice, for US$1.4bn. Landau said the company “
supports thousands of jobs at 6 American factories”. Writing on social media, Landau made the announcement in the context of Washington’s 13 November announcement of a
new trade deal with Guatemala, along with Argentina, Ecuador, and El Salvador, saying that he expects “
to see many more such successes” following the agreement. However, the announcement that Castillo Hermanos had signed an agreement with US private equity firm Brynwood Partners LP regarding the acquisition of Harvest Hill was first announced in April this year. At the time, US multinational bank and financial services corporation Citigroup, which acted as exclusive financial adviser to Castillo Hermanos and structured the financing for the acquisition, noted that Castillo Hermanos, a “
family-owned company, and a leader in the Central American and Caribbean consumer market”, is “
present in more than 35 countries and encompasses a portfolio of upward of 75 brands”.
