*The economic policy secretariat (SPE) of Brazil’s finance ministry has released the latest edition of its bi-monthly
Boletim MacroFiscal report, which showed a GDP growth forecast of 2.2% for 2025. This is down slightly from the annual growth forecast of 2.3% from the September edition. The growth forecast for the agricultural sector was increased from 8.3% in September to 9.5% in November, but the projection for the industrial sector was lowered from 1.4% to 1.3% and the services sector growth forecast was lowered from 2.1% to 1.9%. The less optimistic outlook for Brazil’s economic growth comes amid a decrease in consumer confidence in recent months, reflected in declining retail sales. Yesterday the national statistics institute (Ibge) released its figures for the country’s retails sales in September, showing a monthly decrease of 0.3% in sales volume. The latest monthly result comes amid several months of declining sales figures. Bar a slight 0.1% monthly rise in August, every month since April has registered a monthly drop.
