CARIBBEAN: Terrorist threat in the Caribbean

The recent, and allegedly Caribbean-inspired, terrorist plot to blow up a jet refuelling pipeline at John F Kennedy airport has sparked an investigation into security and radicalisation into the area the US considers its "third border". Caribbean ports are used to transport large quantities of oil and natural gas. Trinidad alone is the US's greatest liquefied natural gas supplier. In addition, some 7m US tourists visit the Caribbean annually, principally through cruise ship holidays.
