In brief: Argentina’s monthly inflation rises while annual rate drops

*Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released the latest figures for its consumer price index (IPC), which put monthly inflation in October at 2.3% and annual inflation at 31.3%. This latest monthly figure marks a slight acceleration from 2.1% in September, while the annual rate in October is down from 31.8% the previous month. Of the 12 categories of products and services measured by Indec, the categories with the highest price increases in October were transport (+3.5%), and housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels (+2.8%). Writing on social media, Argentina’s Economy Minister Luis Caputo welcomed the latest figures, highlighting that this marks the 18th consecutive month to see a decrease in annual inflation, which is now at its lowest level since July 2018.
