In brief: Monthly slump in Brazil’s industrial production

*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released its latest figures for the country’s industrial production, which showed a 0.4% monthly decrease in September. This result comes amid erratic production figures in recent months, following a 0.7% monthly increase in August, a 0.1% drop in July, a slight rise of 0.1% in June, and 0.5% decrease in May. Meanwhile, in year-on-year terms production was up 2.0% compared to September 2024, and the accumulated production in the 12 months through September 2025 was up 1.5% on the preceding 12-month period. Of the 25 product categories measured by the Ibge, 12 saw a monthly decrease in September this year. The greatest declines were registered in pharmaceutical products (-9.7%), vehicles, trailers, and car bodies (-3.5%), and clothing and accessories (-2.9%).
