In brief: Costa Rican exports surge

*Costa Rica’s foreign trade ministry has highlighted figures from the export promotion agency (Procomer) showing that exports increased markedly in the first nine months of the year. Exports totalled US$16.91bn, up by 15% on the same period in 2024. The foreign trade minister, Manuel Tovar, said the figures were satisfying “in a context of global trade uncertainty”. However, Tovar said his ministry would continue to look for “creative solutions to the challenges facing the export sector”. Exports were driven by medical devices, which made up a huge 48% of total national exports and increased by 31% year-on-year. The agriculture sector, which contributes the second largest amount of exports (17%), increased by 1% year-on-year.
