BRAZIL: Petrobras gets licence to explore oil near Amazon Delta
Brazil’s federal environmental regulator (Ibama) issued a licence on 20 October for state oil company Petrobras to drill one exploratory well in an offshore oil block near the mouth of the Amazon River. The progress on the controversial oil project comes as a boost to Petrobras but will undermine the environmental credentials of the Brazilian government, which is hosting the United Nations climate change conference (COP30) in November.
