BRAZIL: Gov’t approves controversial Amazon oil project
On 20 October Brazil’s state-controlled oil company Petrobras received authorisation from the federal environmental regulator (Ibama) to explore oil in the FZA-M-059 offshore block, located in the Foz do Amazonas basin in ecologically sensitive waters near the mouth of the Amazon River.
