*Panama’s 71-member unicameral legislature has approved the budget for the Panama Canal for fiscal year (FY) 2026 (October 2025-September 2026), which envisages revenue of US$5.21bn. However, this is down from the US$5.62bn of revenue
projected for FY2025. The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) envisages that the Panama Canal’s direct contributions to state coffers will amount to US$3.19bn in FY2026, up 14.5% on the budget approved for FY2025. According to an ACP statement, the approved budget is focused on future investment; prioritising water sustainability with the Río Indio reservoir, which will see the construction of a new lake in the middle section of the Indio River watershed; the diversification of its businesses, including
the construction of a new gas pipeline; and investment in the training of its personnel, among other things.
