In brief: Panama’s Mulino seeks investment in Japan

*Panama’s President José Raúl Mulino has begun a visit to Japan where he is due to meet Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and meet with representatives of major companies such as integrated trading company Sumitomo Corporation, financial institution Mizuho Bank, and shipping companies, among others. According to a press release by Panama’s presidency, Mulino will promote major infrastructure projects such as a pipeline for the Panama Canal, line 3 of the Panama Metro (for which Japan is providing a US$2.49bn loan), a train linking Panama City and David, the capital of Chiriquí province (the Mulino government’s flagship project), and future port developments. Mulino is leading a delegation which includes his ministers of foreign affairs (Javier Martínez-Acha), trade and industry (Julio Moltó), economy and finance (Felipe Chapman), and Canal affairs (José Ramón Icaza), among others.
