In brief: Brazil’s quarterly growth slows in Q2

*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released the country’s GDP growth figures for the second quarter of 2025, showing a quarterly growth rate of 0.4% in seasonally adjusted terms. This marks a deceleration from the quarterly growth of 1.3% registered in Q1 2025 and the 1.5% growth in Q2 2024. Quarterly growth in Q2 this year was mainly driven by the services and industrial sectors, which posted growth rates of 0.6% and 0.5% respectively. However, the agricultural sector contracted by 0.1% in quarterly terms. Compared to the same quarter last year, Brazil’s GDP increased by 2.2% in Q2, mainly driven by a 10.1% year-on-year rise in agriculture. Industry and services had more modest year-on-year growth, up 1.1% and 2.0% respectively.
