Claudia Sheinbaum has announced that two solar thermal power plants are planned for Baja California Sur state with a planned investment of US$800m. Speaking in her daily press conference, Sheinbaum said that the two power plants are part of the government’s 2025-2030 plan to strengthen the expansion of the national electricity system. Describing the project as the first of its kind, she said it was in line with efforts to expedite the government’s fulfilment of its energy transition targets, which establish that by 2030, at least 35% of the country’s energy generation will come from renewable sources.
