In brief: Brazil’s services sector grows for fifth consecutive month

*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released its figures for the services sector in June, showing that the total volume of services provided in the country rose by 0.3% from the previous month. After January, when a monthly drop of 0.4% was registered, every month from February-June posted a monthly rise in services. The total services volume for the first half of 2025 was up 2.5% compared to the same period in 2024, and the total volume in the 12 months until June 2025 was up 3.0% from the preceding 12-month period. Despite the overall monthly rise in June, only one of the five services categories measured by the Ibge registered an increase, the transport category (+1.5%). According to an Ibge press release, the monthly rise in transport services in June was mainly driven by an increase in air travel and freight transport. Meanwhile, the categories that posted the greatest monthly decreases in June were services provided to families (-1.4%) and other services (-1.3%).
