MEXICO: Pemex under scrutiny

Two developments have put the spotlight on corruption at Mexico’s beleaguered state oil company Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) in recent days. Firstly, the US Department of Justice (DoJ) indicted two Mexicans living in Texas for allegedly bribing officials at the oil company in exchange for contracts worth millions of dollars. Secondly, Mexico’s federal attorney general’s office (FGR), led by Alejandro Gertz Manero, announced it was reopening legal proceedings into a case related to Pemex’s fraudulent purchase of the Agronitrogenados fertiliser plant in 2014.
