BRAZIL: Government seeks to support businesses amid US tariffs

On 13 August President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva launched a package of measures dubbed the ‘Brasil Soberano’ (Sovereign Brazil) plan, which aims to protect Brazil’s economy from the impacts of the US tariffs that took effect on 6 August [WR-25-30]. With dim short-term prospects for a tariff deal between the Lula administration and the US government of President Donald Trump, Brazil appears to be bracing for the impact of tariffs from its second largest trade partner.
