In brief: Brazil’s retail sales down in monthly terms

*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released its figures for the country’s retail sales in June, which showed a monthly drop of 0.1% in sales volume. Meanwhile, sales in June were up 0.3% year-on-year, and the accumulated annual sales volume for the 12 months through June 2025 was up 2.7% compared to the preceding 12-month period. This latest result marks the third consecutive monthly drop in sales. Of the eight product categories measured by the Ibge, five posted monthly decreases in June. The categories with the greatest decreases in sales were office supplies and information and communications equipment (-2.7%), books, newspapers, magazines, and stationery (-1.5%), and furniture and home appliances (-1.2%). The categories that saw monthly increases in June were other items for personal and domestic use (+1.0%), fabrics, clothing, and footwear (+0.5%), and fuels and lubricants (+0.3%).
