BRAZIL: Trump tariffs drive trade rethink

US President Donald Trump’s most recent barrage of tariff measures has triggered both relief and despair in Brazil, as many key export items from the South American giant were exempt from additional duties but hundreds more are essentially embargoed. But for everyone in Brazil, Washington’s erratic tariff diplomacy this year has triggered collective soul-searching over the bilateral trade relationship. The result has unveiled both shortcomings and advantages for Latin America’s largest economy.
