BRAZIL: Boost for government’s poverty reduction goals

The United Nations (UN) Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has taken Brazil off its ‘Hunger Map’, with its latest data showing that less than 2.5% of Brazil’s population is undernourished. Officials in the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva have attributed this drop in hunger to the policies of the Lula administration. This marks the second time that Brazil has been taken off the Hunger Map. The first time was in 2014, but in 2021 Brazil was put back on the map.
