Mexico’s Public Security Minister Omar García Harfuch highlighted two major operations to tackle fuel theft, or huachicoleo, on 29 June. The operations, which saw the dismantling of a major fuel theft network in central Mexico and the seizure of some 2m litres of stolen fuel in the northern state of Coahuila, have been welcomed by Mexico’s private sector and will likely be viewed positively by the US administration of President Donald Trump, which has highlighted fuel theft as a major revenue stream for drug cartels.
