*Mexico’s national social security institute (IMSS) has reported that 45,624 jobs were lost in May, down from 47,442 losses in April. May’s job losses were attributed to seasonal agricultural factors. According to the same report, 133,655 jobs were created in Mexico from January to May 2025. This compares with 324,613 in the same period in 2024. As of 31 May 2025, the IMSS had 22.37m jobs registered, of which 87.2% are permanent and 12.8% are temporary. Over the past 12 months, a total of 23,045 new jobs were created, a modest 0.1% year-on-year increase. The economic sectors to have registered the highest annual growth in job creation were commerce (+2.8%), electricity (+1.8%), and transportation & communications (+1.4%). Additionally, the IMSS announced that the average base salary for jobs in Mexico has increased to M$629.90 (US$33) per day, the highest on record.
