In brief: Mexico’s unemployment rate up in monthly terms

*Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has reported that the unemployment rate of the economically active population stood at 2.5% in April 2025, compared to 2.6% in the same month of the previous year. This equates to 1.6m people, down 43,000 people year-on-year. The unemployment rate is up from 2.2% in March. In April the economically active population – meaning people aged 15 and over who are employed or actively seeking work – stood at 61.5m, up by 45,000 people as compared to April 2024. The informality rate in April was 54.7%, up from 54.6% in April 2024, with 17.4m people employed in the informal sector.
