Nicaragua has withdrawn from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco). The decision was taken by the authoritarian government led by co-presidents Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo in protest at the decision by Unesco to award its World Press Freedom Prize to the Nicaraguan newspaper La Prensa.
