In brief: Argentina’s economy continues to grow

*Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released its latest monthly estimate of economic activity (Emae) for February, showing a 5.7% yearly increase and a 0.8% rise as compared to the previous month. This follows an annual increase of 6.7% in January when the Emae rose by 0.6% in monthly terms. The result represents the fourth consecutive month of annual growth. Eleven economic sectors expanded in February compared to the same month in 2024, led by financial services (+30.2%) and fishing (+28.3%). Four sectors registered yearly declines, with the largest in community, social & personal services (-2.6) and hotels & restaurants (-1.4%). The positive economic results come as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) increased its 2025 growth forecast for Argentina to 5.5% in its latest World Economic Outlook report, up from 5.0% in its previous (January) report. In the same report, the Fund cut its 2025 growth forecast for Latin America and the Caribbean as a whole to 2%, down from a previous forecast of 2.5%.
